DestinaRoad Experience Guide

Everything you need to know about traveling Morocco in 2026

The DestinaRoad Way

How does the Trip Planner work & why is it "Human-Led"?
Unlike many agencies that use automated bots, DestinaRoad uses a local expert team. When you fill out the planner, a real person in Marrakech reviews your preferences, checks the actual weather and availability for 2026, and sends you a tailored plan via WhatsApp or Email. We believe Morocco is too beautiful for an algorithm to handle.
I don't see a "Pay Now" button—is my booking confirmed?
To ensure 100% quality, we do not take automated payments. A booking is only "Confirmed" once our team manually verifies availability and sends you an official confirmation. We typically handle payments on-site or via secure bank link after we’ve talked to you.

2026 Logistics

Traveling during Ramadan 2026 FEB 18 – MAR 19
Ramadan in 2026 is expected to start around February 18th. While life slows down during the day, the evenings in the Medina are magical! We adjust our tour schedules to ensure you still see everything, though we recommend being mindful of eating in public during fasting hours. Most tourist restaurants remain open.
Which SIM Card should I buy at the airport?
For 2026, we recommend INWI if you are doing Atlas or desert road trips, as they have the best rural coverage. Maroc Telecom is excellent for cities and trains. You can get 50GB for about 200 MAD ($20). We can help you get one the moment you land!
Money & Tipping: What is the current etiquette?
Always carry small change (Dirhams). Tipping (Baksheesh) is part of the culture—usually 10% in restaurants and a few coins for small services.
DestinaRoad Tip: For currency exchange, go to Hotel Ali in the Medina or Hotel Farouk in Guéliz. They consistently offer the best rates in 2026.

Adventure & Culture

Article 490: Can unmarried couples share a room?
This is our most asked question! Yes. If you hold a foreign passport, you can share a room in hotels, riads, and camps across Morocco without a marriage certificate.
Is the Agafay Desert "Real"? (Agafay vs. Sahara)
Agafay is a Stone Desert (45 mins from Marrakech). It has rolling dunes made of rock/clay, not sand. It is "real" in beauty and convenience. If you want the giant orange sand dunes of Merzouga, you must plan for a 3-day trip. DestinaRoad handles both!
How do I avoid the taxi meter "scam"?
In 2026, all Petit Taxis (yellow) must use the meter. Be firm: "Compteur, s'il vous plaît." If they refuse, step out. Minimum fare is 15 MAD. Night rates start around 8:00 PM and add 50% to the meter price.

Safety & Specialty

Is Marrakech safe for solo female travelers?
Marrakech is very safe. However, the Medina can be overwhelming. Using a DestinaRoad Licensed Guide provides a "cultural shield"—you won't be hassled by shopkeepers, and you'll learn the true history. We also provide 24/7 WhatsApp support for all our guests.
Can you arrange a "Day in the Life of a Berber"?
Yes, this is our specialty. We take you away from the tourist buses and into a real family home in the Atlas Mountains. You'll learn to bake bread in a traditional oven and understand the true meaning of Moroccan hospitality.
