Quick answer: Prices for guides in Marrakech vary a lot between guides and agencies. On booking sites in 2025–2026, half-day group walks of the medina are listed from about €18–€30 per person, and private half-day tours often from around €50 per person. Whatever you book, use a licensed guide with an official badge, and agree the price, the length and the route before you start.
We organise guided medina tours as part of our trips in Marrakech. Here is what to expect, what to pay and how to avoid a disappointing tour.
What a guide costs in Marrakech
| Option | Typical price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Group half-day walk (booking sites) | From about €18–€30 per person | A fixed route shared with other travellers |
| Private half-day tour (booking sites) | Often from about €50 per person | Your own guide for about 3–4 hours |
| Our medina tour, cooking class and Agafay dinner | 135€ per person | A full day: guided medina walk, transport, cooking class, camel ride, pool access and dinner with a fire show |
Prices on booking sites change often, so treat them as a guide rather than a quote. Entry tickets to monuments are usually extra.
Half day or full day?
A half day, about 3–4 hours, is enough for the medina’s highlights: Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main souks and one or two monuments such as the Bahia Palace or the Ben Youssef Madrasa. A full day lets you add gardens, a cooking class or a trip out of the city.
In summer, book a morning walk. The lanes are cooler early on, and by midday the heat makes long walks tiring.
How to recognise a licensed guide
- Licensed guides carry an official guide badge. Ask to see it before you start.
- Book through your riad, a registered agency or a reputable platform, not with someone who approaches you in the street.
- Be wary of anyone who says a street or the square is “closed” and offers to show you another way. It is a classic lead-in to a paid detour or a shop.
- Agree the price, the length and the route in advance, including whether shop visits are part of the tour.
Shops, commissions and tipping
Some guides earn a commission when you buy in the shops they take you to. That does not make the shop bad, but you should never feel pressured. If you don’t want shopping stops, say so at the start. Tipping is appreciated but not compulsory; give what feels right for the service.
Our full day: medina, cooking class and Agafay dinner
Our medina tour, cooking class and Agafay dinner package costs 135€ per person. You meet your guide at Jemaa el-Fnaa at 11:00 and walk through the souks, buying the spices for your cooking class on the way. Then we drive you to Agafay for the class, pool access, a camel ride and dinner with a fire show. Transport is included; drinks and personal expenses are not.
